River of Ash

It's called this because, at one time, when the volcano's were active, the river ran black with ash. Now, of course, the water runs clean and clear but the bottom of the river has forever been scarred. It's pitch black with cooled lava and hardened ash. There's no mud and most especially, no living plants which gives it no marine life. But, this is the only place to get fresh water and to cool off from the heat of the blazing sun during summer.
